City of Winter Park Administration issued the following announcement on Oct. 4.
The Winter Park Fire-Rescue Department (WPFD) is pleased to present their first “Hands-Only CPR Training,” Saturday, November 3, from 9 a.m. to noon at Fire-Rescue Headquarters located at 343 W. Canton Ave. The public is invited to attend this FREE event which will also feature family-fun activities including stop-the-bleed training, fire truck display, spraying a real fire hose, coloring for the kids, raffles and light refreshments. Hands-Only CPR is performed without mouth-to-mouth breaths as done in conventional CPR. This life-saving technique is recommended for use by those who witness a teenager or adult suddenly collapse, in order to care for the patient until first responders arrive. Most people who suffer sudden cardiac arrest and receive CPR from bystanders before first responders arrive have a higher chance of surviving. Although walk-ins for the training will be accepted, registration is encouraged by visiting wphandsonlycpr.eventbrite.com. Attendees are asked to check in with WPFD representatives in the headquarters lobby. Training sessions will last approximately 15 minutes.
