Obituary for June McMahon Pukas Acre

By Lene Caracas-Apuntar | | Nov 19, 2019

June McMahon Pukas Acre passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2019, she was 87 years old. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland on June 22, 1932 to Lucy (Dantoni) McMahon and John McMahon.

From all accounts, she had a wonderful childhood, and especially loved going to Ocean City, Maryland with her family and friends. She graduated in 1950 from Mount de Sales Academy, an all-girl's private Catholic school, in Catonsville, Maryland.

One evening, while she was living in Baltimore, she went out with friends and met Vincent Pukas who hailed from Minersville, Pennsylvania. After a short courtship, they were married in May 1956. Because of Vince's job with Martin-Marietta, the family moved 10 times, to 6 different states. In 1967 the Pukas family finally set down roots in Winter Park, Florida where the family loved to go water skiing, swimming at the Eastbrook Pool, having parties with friends, socializing with neighbors, and just enjoying life.

After Vince's death in 1972, June went back to work at a few places, and eventually ended up working at UCF as an Executive Assistant in their newly formed Hospitality Management Department. She retired after 15 years at UCF. At her retirement party, her daughter Clare, attended the celebration, and her children were quite shocked to hear that when June was provoked she could have the "mouth of a sailor" according to her bosses and co-workers. June had a sweet tooth and loved chocolate and desserts. One evening she was eating dinner at a friend's house. After dinner, June asked her friend if there was any dessert. The reply was no, but after some discussion with her friend, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich was made for June so she could satisfy her sweet tooth.

She was a sweet soul, who was loved by everyone who met her, and she never had a bad word to say about anyone.

June is survived by her daughter, Clare Boyette (Jerry) and their son, Jared Boyette; her son, Terry Pukas (Kyle), and their sons, David Pukas and Thomas Pukas, and great-granddaughter, Eulalia Pukas, and many relatives and friends.

June was preceded in death by her husband of 15 years, Vince Pukas, parents, Lucy and John McMahon, sister, Margaret McMahon Clark, and nieces, Janice Clark, and Donna Clark Endzel.

June will be cremated, and a Catholic Mass and Wake will be held in January 2020.

Her loving and caring soul and spirit will be missed very much, but we know that we will see her again someday.
